Hello November!
November 20, 2015
It's definitely November but not the usual November! We have no snow, last year at this time we had quite a bit. I am not complaining mind you, I think it's great!
Im in my office right now and being a slow Friday, I thought I would take the time to write. There are a few updates since my last post.
First and most important update is about Mama. She was bitten by another cat and the wound abscessed. She ripped her own hair out to clean the wound, that is how we found out she had something going on. Maggie took her up to our vets which is a little out of town to leave her there for the day. They sedated her and cut the skin open so the poison could drain from the area. It looks really gross but it also seems to be healing up rather quickly. We got her a rabies and upper respiratory shot too.
Now for the exiting news! We may keep her and not just keep her, but allow her to live indoors if it suits her to do so. She is part feral still and believe me when I say I have struggled with this decision to bring her indoors. Knowing the average homeless cat has a very small survival rate after the age five makes me lean towards keeping her indoors. She is now five years old and seems to be running into more situations that are dangerous. Darting out in front of cars would be one of them.
I feel horrible about taking away her outdoor freedom, its heart breaking, but my logic says she really will not survive out there much longer. She is only getting older.
The fun part of her being in the house? Well she is with three of her kittens (now grown) and they all seem to get along really well. She seems very attached to Hemingway. He was the first one of her kittens I got into the house. She rubs against him and follows him all over the place. Hemingway is so special, this cat just has something about him that I just can't do justice to describe. Mama loves him that is clear!
Well time for me to fly....... going to leave shortly for home to play with the kittens and then go to dinner with a group of friends tonight.
Have a great weekend!
